Can I use the term “bulk mail”?

  • No, bulk mail is an old postal term.  The new term is standard mail.  “Bulk mail” cannot be used in your indicia.


What is the difference between First Class mail and Standard mail?

  • The difference between First Class mail and Standard mail is the delivery time and the cost of postage.  First class mail is delivered in one to two days, just like regular mail.  Standard mail is delivered between three to ten days, depending on mail type.
  • Standard mail requires 200 pieces.  Pieces must be identical and not personal in nature, such as a check or invoice.
  • Postage for Standard mail is determined by weight and destination.


Do I have to purchase a permit from the USPS?

  • No, you may use St. Louis Pre-Sort’s permit at no charge, but all postage is required in advance before mailing can be submitted to Post Office.


What is the minimum paperweight for a self-mailer?

  • 9 point


Why do I need FIM markings and barcodes on business reply mail and courtesy mail?

  • To receive an automation rate on mailing, all reply mail must include FIM mark and barcode.
